Have you ever been to the Upper West Side of Manhattan during spring? It is simply stunning! Between Central Park, Riverside Park and Morningside Park, the choice is not easy! Central Park with its open spaces and woods, Riverside Park with its stunning views and Morningside Park with St John the DivineCathedral'sincredible architecture, you are surrounded by beauty at every corner of the neighborhood!
The explosion of colors symbolizes the renewal of life after a winter that most New Yorkers, especially the parents of babies and toddlers, find really (too) long! Everyone wants to witness nature’s beauty and enjoy some outdoor fun again! Needless to say, between the pleasure of warmer weather, the joy inspired by the spring light and the bold colors of the trees, it is one of the best times for a portrait session!
The images above were captured on 2 May and the conditions were perfect for magical images (a NYC photographer's dream!)! The trees were in full bloom and the temperature was warm. We coordinated the girls’ outfit with the pink of the cherry trees, as I recommended on my previous blog, and the result could not be more beautiful. Shades of pink mixed with shades of fresh green created colorful and contrasting portraits that perfectly matched the playful mood of the children!
Since this session was with toddlers and small children, we did a mix of candid portraits and formal portraits, when the girls were in the mood to strike a pose! We had so much fun playing and hugging the trees, running around, finding the most beautiful spots and flowers!
If you have small babies and toddlers, I usually recommend doing photo sessions in my UWS studio. In the studio, I am able to work with both natural and studio light, which allows me to work at any time of the day and to coordinate around the little ones’ nap and feeding schedules. If your kids are older and full of energy, Central Park can be the perfect place to let them run wild and capture their shining personalities. These outdoor photo sessions usually take place later during the day, for a soft, diffused and warm light.
