NYC Artists fusion: when photography meets fine art painting
Feb 22, 2019 | By: Camille CD Photography
When Kate contacted me for a maternity session a few months ago, she mentioned that she lived in the Upper West Side (literally two blocks from my photo studio) and that she was a fine art painter and sculptor. As soon as I saw her work, I started to dream of a “fusion of genres”, where photography and painting would merge. Day after day, the idea of using her paintings as a ‘backdrop’ for some of her images became evident.
During her photo session, we discussed her work and creative process. As an artist myself, it was very interesting to know more about her source of inspiration, like visions of aerial scapes for her Geotic Series (her father was a pilot so she was often in the air) or her architectural background for her Ecliptic Series. She creates special techniques to work on these giant pieces and sometimes updates the colors after months of reflection.
During the editing process, my mind was racing. I wanted to emphasis and contrast the shapes of her art with the shape of her pregnant body while keeping the color tones in harmony. After some trial and error, Photoshop magic allowed me to create the two pictures on this blog post, the most captivating ones to me.
It was an amazing experience to work on such an exciting and original project! The aesthetic inspiration is fundamental to my work and it was in full swing for this photo session!
Kate is based in New York (her studio is in the Bronx). She is not only an extremely talented artist but also a lovely woman and an amazing mom (soon of two little boys). If you would like to know more about her work and follow her, make sure to visit her website and instagram page.
