What is the creative process for an artistic maternity photography session?

There is something fascinating about the creative process. Most of the time, I feel inspired at night. My mind finally finds the time to wander around without the pressure of the day. Sometimes, it comes suddenly all by itself, with a clear vision of a final product. Sometimes it’s a process and it can take weeks to mature and be defined. It is the former that happened for this maternity session.
During our photo session pre-consultation, we had discussed the incredible excitement of welcoming this new baby into the family, especially from the 10 year old big sister. I suggested a set with a more artistic vision and Natasha was eager to try it. I had seen this ‘wrapping’ idea with a newborn and her mom and I thought it would be wonderful to try it in this maternity photo session. I wanted to show the amazing mother-daughter bond that these two wonderful women have together, and also emphasize the incredible love the big sister already had for this so desired baby girl. As they walked into my New York studio, I knew that they would look perfect in the pink tulle. As I wrapped them, the girl explained to me how excited she was about becoming a big sister. It was beautiful to witness the love between mother and daughter, and now a new baby sister! I think that this image reflects it perfectly! Close to each other's hearts, wrapped by a soft and delicate fabric and light, I knew that they would look like a work of art. They found the final image to be stunning.
I cannot wait for this beautiful family to come back to my NYC studio for their newborn session and to create magical images with their bundle of love!
