How to make your family portraits about love and connection - Analysis of a mommy and me portrait session by Manhattan & Provence family photographer
1) Body and hands placement: Mother and daughter interact in a specific way so that the first striking thing on the image is the tender connection they share. They always touch/hold hands or kiss and their body language is used to reflect the mutual love they share and have for each other.
2) Look and interaction: For a more formal portrait, the mom and child look straight at the camera. When the focus is the emotions or the playfulness, the mom and her child look at each other.
3) Cropping: Respecting the rule of third allows one to have the eyes directed to the mother and child. Meanwhile, a specific crop can strongly emphasize the connection between the duo.
4) Color versus black and white: The choice of black and white will give a timeless feel to the images. The emotions will be frozen in time as there are less information and distracting elements in the photograph.
5) Clothing: Wearing soft colors allows the focus of the portrait to be on the love between those in the photograph and the chemistry they share.
